YSL Beauty: Libre Berry Crush 3D Fragrance
Immersive Wallscape
- Brooklyn NY
- Custom Fabrication, Immersive Experiences, Out of Home Advertising
Executive Summary
YSL Beauty was launching LIBRE Berry Crush, the first raspberry-forward fragrance in the LIBRE line. Colossal Media brought us in to make the launch wallscape do something a painted wall can’t do on its own: let people smell the fragrance and touch the fruit.
We 3D printed four five-foot raspberries as a three-dimensional extension of the mural, and engineered a scent machine that diffuses the actual Berry Crush perfume on a timed schedule. The result turned a corner block in Williamsburg into a sight, smell, and touch experience, right in the middle of Brooklyn nightlife and luxury hotels. The installation ran for about a month and a half.
Business Challenge
A flat mural can show a raspberry. It can’t let someone reach out and touch one, or catch the scent on the way past.
YSL Beauty wanted to launch Berry Crush with an out-of-home moment that did more than advertise the fragrance. They wanted people to experience it. That meant engaging three senses at once, sight, smell, and touch, on a public wall that thousands of people would walk by, lean on, and photograph over six weeks.
The work had to hold up to weather and constant interaction at street level. The dimensional berries had to match a hand-painted mural exactly, so the fruit and the flat artwork read as one continuous piece. And it all had to land in a high-visibility Brooklyn location where the surrounding culture was part of the point.
Goals & Objectives
-
Create a multi-sensory OOH moment that engages sight, smell, and touch
-
Extend the mural into three dimensions with larger-than-life raspberries
-
Deliver the real Berry Crush fragrance at street level through engineered scent diffusion
-
Match the dimensional berries to the hand-painted wall so the installation reads as a single artwork
-
Build for durability through six weeks of weather and public interaction in a high-traffic location
Our Solution
Dimensional Raspberries, Printed and Built like a Jigsaw
Each raspberry is five feet across. To get there, we 3D printed every berry in PETG, in roughly 75 to 150 separate pieces, then assembled each one like a giant jigsaw puzzle.
From there, every berry went through the same finishing process: a high-build polyester primer coat, hand-sanding to a smooth surface, and a white prime to give Colossal a clean foundation to paint on. The piece count tells you how much hands-on work this took. Each berry was a build, not a print job.
A Scent Machine Pumping the Real Fragrance
The mural smells like Berry Crush because it actually is Berry Crush.
We engineered and supplied a custom scent machine that diffuses the real LIBRE fragrance into the air on a timed schedule. That’s the piece that turns a wallscape into an experience. Someone walking by doesn’t just see the berries, they catch the scent before they’ve registered the brand name, and the fragrance is the product itself, not an approximation.
Built to Match, Built to Last
The dimensional fruit and the painted wall had to feel like one piece. Colossal painted both the berries and the full mural on site, finishing the white-primed raspberries in their final colors so they matched the surrounding artwork exactly. The high-build primer and sanded, sealed surfaces gave the berries the durability to stand up to weeks of weather and street-level contact.
Placement did the rest. The wall wraps a corner block in Williamsburg lined with luxury hotels and nightlife, putting the fragrance in the middle of Brooklyn culture instead of off to the side of it.
Results
The installation gave people a reason to stop. They reached out to touch the berries and caught the fragrance walking by, the kind of interaction a printed ad doesn’t earn.
Our social content documenting the build and install performed just as well:
-
21.9% LinkedIn engagement rate on our fabrication and installation content, well above the platform's 2-5% average
-
Trusted across multiple Wolters Kluwer divisions, with internal referrals driving new work
The wallscape was part of YSL Beauty’s broader Berry Crush launch, which posted strong numbers across the same window:
-
YSL climbed to the #3 Women's Luxury Fragrance brand in Q1 2026, with 5.1% market share, up from 4.5% a year earlier
-
Berry Crush launch sales in its first three months tripled those of LIBRE L'Eau Nue over the comparable 2025 period
Ready To Build a Multi-Sensory Activation?
Most out-of-home work competes for attention on a flat surface people can walk past. We build the kind people walk up to.
From 3D-printed dimensional props to engineered scent diffusion to installations that match a painted wall down to the color, we design and fabricate experiences that engage more than one sense and hold up in public for weeks. If you have an idea that needs to be touched, smelled, or remembered, our team can build it.
